VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers are
key to the Free Clinic's success in meeting its mission. Volunteer
opportunities are available during business hours as well as on Clinic
evenings and for special events. New volunteers are always welcome
and receive an individual orientation and on-the-job training. For more

Administrative
Volunteer
Positions
Project Person
Responsibilities: Assist staff with a variety of projects
ranging from one-time to
long-term projects.
Time: Variable, flexible.
Qualifications: Some projects require ability to talk on the
phone to volunteers or patients, willingness to learn new computer
software, or willingness to assist with and attend special events.
Phone Person
Responsibilities: Answer patient questions, refer
patients to outside resources/agencies, answer some volunteer questions,
schedule patient appointments.
Time: Variable, flexible.
Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, willingness to
treat our patients with kindness, must be willing to learn about clinic
procedures and protocol, must commit to an extended period of time.
Screener
Responsibilities: Accurately fill out the screening
forms for new patients, qualify patients for services, re-screen
current patients, assist the receptionist between screening sessions.
Time: Variable
Qualifications: Ability to ask patients confidential demographic
and qualifying information, willingness to assist the receptionist when
necessary, willingness to learn about other community resources available
to patients, willingness to interact with our patients in a kind manner.
Staff Stuffer
Responsibilities: Prepare and deliver a meal,
including beverages and dessert for the volunteers.
Time: 4:30pm
Qualifications: Ability to prepare delicious and nutritious
food!
Evening
Receptionist
Responsibilities: Check patients into the clinic, get
medical charts ready, schedule patients for follow-up appointments, read doctor and nurse
notations, initiate referrals and lab and x-ray procedures when necessary.
Time: 4:30 - 9:00pm
Qualifications: Excellent
communication skills, willingness to greet our patients with kindness,
ability to arrive at 4:30, ability to work one on one with each patient
and put proper closure to each patient's visit.
Medication
Logger
Responsibilities: Record
information for all sample medications dispensed and copy prescriptions.
Time: 5:30 - 9:00pm
Qualifications: Must
be neat and accurate.
CLINICAL VOLUNTEER
POSITIONS
Provider
Responsibilities: Treat patients
by appointment.
Time: 5:30 - 9:00pm
Qualifications: Must
be licensed to practice medicine in Virginia. May be a physician,
nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
Nurse
Responsibilities: Take vital
signs of each patient, record chief complaint and brief patient history,
assign patients to exam rooms, prepare rooms between patients, assist
providers as needed, work as a team with other nurses to ensure proper
patient flow and that protocol if followed.
Time: 5:00 - 9:00pm
Qualifications: Must
be licensed to practice in Virginia. May be am RN, CNA, LPN or
Medical Assistant.
