| The
Free Clinic utilizes several resources to help patients meet their
medication needs at little to no cost whenever possible. A Pharmacy Services Coordinator,
Danielle Eavers, works with physicians to
coordinate medication resources to maximize assistance for the
patient.
Samples
The Free Clinic maintains
a supply of sample medications which providers may dispense during clinic
visits. Fortunately, our sample medications meet many of our patients'
short term medication needs as well as helping a patient with an initial
supply of medication he/she will be taking for a longer period.
Patient Assistance
Programs
Patients who require long
term pharmaceutical care may qualify to receive their medications at no
cost through one of the pharmaceutical companies. Applications are
processed at the Free Clinic.
Prescriptions
If the Clinic is unable
to meet a patient's needs in one of the above ways a prescription will be
written. Patients receive a prescription card, much like those provided by
insurance companies. The card allows the patients to have generic
medications filled for a $2-$8 co-pay depending upon the medication's
cost. Patients may purchase brand name medications but are fully
responsible for the cost. Participating pharmacies are: Owen's Pharmacy in
Clifton Forge and Hot Springs Pharmacy in Hot Springs.
Some
Medicare Recipients Eligible
As of July 1, 2000 Medicare
recipients whose incomes are such that Medicaid is required to cover
Medicare costs became eligible for medication assistance through the Free
Clinic.
