"Camp Rollinson" in Alleghany County, Virginia
In early February 1999 we completed the purchase of 155 acres of land
in Alleghany County.
It's completely wooded, undeveloped and pretty wild. Elevation varies
from 1300 to 1600 feet with two year-round trickles (at low-water it takes
some imagination to call them streams), ridges, and ravines. About a third
is "level" (a relative term in the mountains). An old logging road provides
access to most of the property.

You can see that David is specializing in wearing "dorky" hats!

Most of the boundary is with the Washington National Forest.

The land is only about 3 miles away from our house [old house in town].
You can see the Forest Hills water tower in Clifton Forge from the east-most
ridge.
If you're really bored, you can view three QuickTime VR panoramas (WARNING:
Each movie is about 1 MB!):
Kitty Peak [As of
late 2006, "Kitty Peak" really doesn't exist any more -- it's
the shale pit (aka "quarry") that provided all the shale for
our roadbed and site fill.]
Knoll with a view
(cleared in 2001).
Original home site (passed the "perc
test" for the previous owners)

And of course, no winter would be complete without a look at this year's
Pinewood Derby car--A John Rollinson original!
