HEAD COACH:
Derek McDaniel
1st Season .. 4th overall
Coach McDaniel moves to the
head coach spot after 3 years as an assistant. He is a former 3-sport
Hornet standout athlete who graduated in 1977 after having led the Hornets to
the state baseball championship during his senior year. He returned to his roots
at WMHS four years ago after having spent the previous 16 years as head baseball
coach at Waynesboro HS. He also spent two years as an assistant coach at Page
County following graduation from Marshall University in Huntington, WVa., where
McDaniel earned a baseball scholarship following his stellar prep
career. He and his wife, Tammy, have a daughter, Taryn, who is a
student at Radford Univ. and played basketball and volleyball at
Waynesboro.
Coach "Mac" also just completed his 4th season as head football coach
at WMHS, leading Wilson to only its third region playoff berth in 2006 and
first in 10 years. He also spent three seasons as manager of the
Valley Baseball League's Waynesboro "Generals" and will
continue as an assistant coach.
ASSISTANT COACH:
Rodney Cullen
4th Season
Rodney Cullen is in his 4th year
coaching baseball at Wilson after having spent the past three as head
coach. Coach Cullen formerly was a coach and athletic director at
Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro. Coach Cullen is a native of
Lyndhurst and played baseball & basketball at Stuarts Draft HS and graduated
from Longwood College. He teaches P.E. and Behind-the-Wheel driver's training at
Wilson and also is head varsity boys basketball coach. His oldest son,
Brooks (now a sophomore at Concord (WVa) University) set 5 school baseball
records as a 4-year player for the Hornets. Rodney and his wife, Ann, have
another son, Hunter, a WMHS junior, who was the leading scorer on the varsity
basketball and was chosen 1st team all-Shenandoah District.
